Executive Secretary of the Antarctic Treaty Dr. Manfred Reinke Visits Beijing

On 17 November 2016, Dr. Xu Hong, Director-General of the Department of Treaty and Law of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, met with the visiting Executive Secretary of the Antarctic Treaty Dr. Manfred Reinke. Dr. Xu Hong welcomed Dr. Reinke's visit to China and exchanged views with Dr. Reinke on the preparation of the 40th Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting (ATCM XL) and the 20th meeting of the Committee for Environmental Protection (CEP).

 

 

 

On 18 November 2016, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Treaty and Law of the Chinese Foreign Ministry Ma Xinmin (middle) met with Dr. Manfred Reinke, Executive Secretary of the Antarctic Treaty. Mr. Ma Xinmin updated Dr. Manfred Reinke on the latest progress of China's preparation for the 40th Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting (ATCM XL) to be held in Beijing, including the formation of the host country secretariat, the secretariat staffing, the selection of the conference venue, and supporting facilities. Ma and the Antarctic Treaty Secretariat guests also discussed the further plan for preparing ATCM XL. Dr. Manfred Reinke indicated that he was deeply impressed by China's meticulous and thoughtful preparation for ATCM XL and that the Secretariat was very satisfied with the progress. The two sides agreed to continue close communication and cooperation on ATCM XL preparation and work closely for a successful and professional organization of the meeting.

 

The 40th ATCM and the 20th CEP meeting will be held in Beijing from 22 May to 1 June 2017.
